How the Unisa Application Process Works

Selection Process

Unisa’s 2025 selection process involves assessing each applicant based on:

  • Final Grade 12 results
  • Type of school attended
  • Gender
  • Socioeconomic background
  • Race
  • Other relevant factors

Commitment to Addressing Inequalities

Unisa is committed to addressing historical inequalities while maintaining high academic standards, a commitment reflected in its application and selection process.

Admission Requirements

Students must verify that they meet both the general and college-specific admission requirements before applying, including the necessary Academic Points Score (APS) for their chosen program. The minimum APS varies depending on the college and program. Applicants are advised to check the specific admission criteria for each qualification they are interested in.

Application Process

Applicants can apply for up to two qualifications, listing them in order of preference. However, only one qualification can be registered for, even if both applications are successful. Unisa will notify applicants of their admission status, indicating their qualifications and corresponding study periods.

Responding to Offers

Once an applicant receives an offer from Unisa, they must respond within the specified timeframe. If the offer is not accepted within 10 working days, it will be withdrawn and given to another applicant.

Applicants can only accept one offer. Once an offer is accepted for a qualification, any other offers will be automatically withdrawn.

Registration

After accepting an offer, students must register for the specified study period. If they do not register for that semester, they will need to reapply in the next application cycle.

Who Needs to Apply?

Anyone planning to start a new qualification must apply for admission, including:

  • First-time Unisa applicants
  • Current students wishing to change their qualification or specialization
  • Students completing a higher certificate and seeking to continue with further undergraduate studies
  • Individuals who previously applied, received an offer, but did not accept or register
  • Those planning to enroll in a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college through the Unisa-TVET partnership.
