PIP Claim Statistics
As of April 30, 2023, there were just over three million PIP claimants in England and Wales, with 36% receiving the highest award level. In Scotland, there were 300,000 claimants, bringing the total number of PIP claimants in the UK to around 3.3 million.
PIP Rates for 2024/2025
PIP rates increased by 6.7% for 2024/2025. Payments are made monthly, except for terminal illness cases, where payments are made weekly.

You are eligible for PIP if:
- You are aged 16 or over
- You have a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability
- This condition makes daily tasks or mobility difficult
- You expect these difficulties to last for at least 12 months
How to Claim PIP
To begin your claim, dial the PIP new claims phone number at 0800 917 2222 (Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm). You will be required to furnish:
- Contact details (phone number or email)
- Date of birth
- National Insurance number
- Bank or building society account details
- Doctor or health worker’s contact details
- Addresses and dates of any care homes or hospitals you’ve stayed in
- Dates and details of any countries you’ve visited for more than four weeks
After the call, you’ll receive a form to complete and return within a month, including as much evidence as possible about your condition. You may then be invited for a medical assessment, which could be in person, over the phone, or via video call.
